MailChimp has recently announced the release of its new API 3.0 making it more organized and less confusing retaining the features of previous versions. Conducting a survey, MailChimp found some bugs with its existing API along with issues related to documentation. Although they tried improving the 2.0 API, it still retained the complexity encouraging the MailChimp researchers to come up with the striking new API 3.0

After doing a public beta for couple of months, the API has been launched recently. API covers some major feature changes including:

  • List creation is now available in the public API, which can reduce the number of steps a new MailChimp user might need to take to set up integration manually.
  • Adding people to your list in an ‘unsubscribed’ state (this is excellent if you’re joining us from another email service provider)
  • Ability to upload images to the file manager through the API

Apart from these features, MailChimp also plans to add new E-commerce and campaign editing tools to power up the MailChimp integration.

MailChimp has revamped their error serving process to ensure users get useful data when their calls fail, and they’re using more appropriate 4xx and 5xx error codes. They also now return HateOAS links with all responses, allowing users to navigate and discover the API without constantly referencing the API docs.

MailChimp has also revised and reorganized its API documentation making it easier for the users to find the way around. The new API responses and schemas will point you to the most relevant page in the API docs.

And you can keep tabs on future API updates by following @MailChimp_API on Twitter.
